Another field trip to Charles County Humane Society

We took another field trip to the Charles County Humane Society again this week.  It is Kitten season at the shelter.  They are really in need of people to foster these furry little balls of fun, so if you willing to open your home and your heart – please give them a call.

One of the statistics they mention is that for Charles County Only – to keep all dogs and cats out of the shelter would mean that every man, woman and child in the county would have to keep 45 cats and 16 dogs.  Can you imagine – that means just for a household of two people, you would have 90 cats and 32 dogs!  That is a really compelling reason to SPAY or NEUTER your pet!

The Charles County Humane Society is just one of the non-profit organizations that we at Waldorf Dodge support, mostly in a non-financial way.  Just by producing videos of the pets available for adoption, we are providing an important service for them and the community.  Want to know how you can help?  Give them a call at 301-845-6161.  They LOVE volunteers.

Wild Goose Chase

We went on a wild goose chase today;  quite literally.  Last fall we developed a piece of property adjacent to our commercial lot,  This additional lot is for additional vehicle display.  The construction consisted of expanding the parking lot, adding new lights, creating  a storm water management area  (a bigger pond) and expansion of our small forest conservation area.    It’s important to us to do what we can to help protect the Chesapeake Bay.

Apparently a pair of Canada  geese really liked what we did!  They have taken up residence and have started a family.  The female is currently sitting on the nest, so we don’t know for sure that there are eggs under there – and I am not brave enough to try and find out!  If our suspicions are correct, there is a good chance that we will have goslings in a few weeks. So keep checking for updates on our Facebook page Waldorf Dodge.

Maybe next time there will be a real chase involved!

News from the Red Cross

We thought we would share this good news story from the Red Cross with all of you.  At the end you will find a link with information for donations.  Or you can go directly to the Waldorf Dodge website, where we will post a link as well.  Our thoughts go out to all of those effected by this terrible natural disaster.

Good News from Japan

Thursday, March 17, 2011 — As an American Red Cross employee Carrol Barrett tackles unknown situations every day. She has done so for the 25 years she’s been a Red Crosser.

But nothing at her work has been as difficult as learning about the March 11 earthquake and tsunami in Japan, and then waiting to hear from her two brothers who live in Tokyo and travel throughout the area with their respective jobs.

When the siblings did reach other, the news was good.

Barrett’s brother Paul Hoshizaki reported that he was safe in Tokyo where the quake registered 5.0 on the Richter scale. The day of the quake all transportation came to a standstill. “It took Paul two-and-a-half hours to walk home, along with millions of other walkers,” Barrett reports.

When Paul did reach home, he found a few broken items inside, but no damage to the structure of the house.

Barrett says she worries now about the availability of food and gasoline for her brother in Tokyo, even though there has been nothing in the news to make her anxious. She says her brother, who works for the Japanese Evangelical Lutheran Association, is caught up in coordinating response with other non-governmental organizations and hasn’t contacted her recently.

Carol Barrett’s other brother, Mark, and his wife Wendy, were in Taipei when the quake and tsunami hit Japan.

Mark also emailed his sister to let her know he was okay. He and his wife plan to return to Tokyo at the end of this week—that is—ifthey can get transportation into the city.

Barrett says she is more concerned about her sister-in-law’s family in Sendai, Japan. The family was safe following the earthquake and the tsunami. But now they have been living for nearly a week without gas, water or electricity, facing frigid temperatures and snow so heavy that storms have hampered rescue operations.

And Barrett is concerned about the tsunami damage to Japan’s nuclear power plants. Low levels of radiation have been measured in Tokyo, though thankfully not at levels dangerous to human health.

“I feel so fortunate I don’t have loved ones in northern Japan,” Barrett says. “At the same time I am heartsick.” She explains that she was born in Tokyo, the child of missionaries, and that Japan is part of her life.

As she grieves for Japan, Barrett continues her daily work at the American Red Cross. She is very grateful to be a part of the Red Cross and to do what she can. “Although I’m not directly involved in bringing aid to the Japanese people, I feel I am connected through my work at the Red Cross,” she comments.

Dodge Brand and Mopar Introduce Vehicle Information Smartphone Applications

  • Free new feature available for all Dodge vehicles
  • New Mopar apps offer access to Customer Care and 24-hour road-side assistance, product-feature video demonstrations and connections with fellow owners via the company’s brands on social media sites
  • One-stop spot for general information about customer’s Dodge vehicle, including operation, maintenance and warranty information
  • App available for download to smartphones powered by Android, iTunes or BlackBerry platforms

Auburn Hills, Mich. , Jan 20, 2011  –

The Dodge brand and Mopar are making it easier than ever for owners to connect with their vehicles, giving electronic information at their fingertips with a free, new smartphone application.

The new Mopar apps provide vehicle operation, maintenance and warranty information, as well as product feature video demonstrations, connections with fellow owners via the company’s brands on social media sites and access to customer care and 24-hour road-side assistance. Because the system is digital, it also allows Dodge to make updates to the “electronic” owner’s manual in real-time.

“Dodge vehicles feature the latest technology to keep our active customers connected and on the move,” said Ralph Gilles, President and CEO — Dodge Car Brand. “This is an example of how we are better connecting with our Dodge owners, responding to their needs and growing our relationship with them.”

New Dodge Durango and Charger owners can now download vehicle information applications to select personal smartphones. The new Mopar feature, developed by Michigan-based Tweddle Group, is designed to support vehicles in the U.S. market. The applications will first be available for iPhone and later for BlackBerry and Android devices on major mobile carriers. Applications for the Avenger, Journey and Grand Caravan will be available in mid-January 2011.

“Dodge’s new vehicle-information application is part of our company’s customer care initiatives and creates a convenient, on-demand channel of communication with our customers,” said Pietro Gorlier, President – Mopar Service, Parts and Customer Care, Chrysler Group LLC. “This communication will enhance customer experience with a source for owners and potential owners to learn about Dodge products.”

Application Features
These new Dodge smartphone vehicle information apps will complement existing user guides and DVDs that are currently provided with each vehicle. Each vehicle-information app will allow the consumer to browse functional categories and view detailed topics of interest relative to their specific vehicle.

Key feature categories include product information, vehicle operating instructions, vehicle maintenance schedules, service contract details, warning lights and controls, warranty information and customer assistance. Other features and benefits include links to Mopar parts and accessories, product brand gear and merchandise and social media sites. The app will also contain high-resolution product information images and videos.

About Dodge
Dodge is a full line of cars, crossovers, minivans and SUVs that are agile, daring, sensible and inventive. The brand is on a tear for the 2011 model year, redefining itself with six all-new or significantly redesigned new vehicles, introducing new lifestyle packages designed to better meet the needs of its customers, launching catchy new ads that have started conversations with owners and potential owners, actively participating in new events and sponsorships and developing relationships with its long-loyal enthusiast base, as well as reaching out to customers who want cars that leave them wanting more.

For the 2011 model year, the Dodge brand is filling dealer showrooms with a vast array of new and updated products. The Dodge product line includes the all-new Dodge Durango and Dodge Charger, significantly revamped Grand Caravan, Journey, Avenger and Challenger, and the Dodge Caliber and Dodge Nitro.

About the Mopar Brand
Mopar is Chrysler Group LLC’s service, parts and customer-care brand.
Mopar distributes approximately 280,000 parts and accessories in more than 90 countries and is the source for all original-equipment parts for Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram Truck vehicles. Mopar parts are unique in that they are engineered and tested with the same teams that create factory-authorized vehicle specifications for Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram Truck vehicles – a direct connection that no other aftermarket parts company can provide.

More than 70 Years of Mopar
When Chrysler bought Dodge in 1928, the need for a dedicated parts manufacturer, supplier and distribution system to support the growing enterprise led to the formation of the Chrysler Motor Parts Corporation (CMPC) in 1929.

Mopar (a simple contraction of the words Motor and PARts) was trademarked for a line of antifreeze products in 1937. It also was widely used as a moniker for the CMPC. The Mopar brand made its mark in the 1960s — the muscle-car era. The Chrysler Corporation built race-ready Dodge and Plymouth “package cars” equipped with special high-performance parts. Mopar carried a line of “special parts” for super stock drag racers and developed its racing parts division called Mopar Performance Parts to enhance speed and handling for both road and racing use.
